Frequently Asked Technical & Procurement Questions
Addressing key questions asked by industrial buyers, OEM panel engineers, and procurement teams.
1. What is the fundamental difference between a Surge Protection Device (SPD) and an Under Over Voltage Protector?
A Surge Protection Device (SPD) is specifically engineered to clamp short-duration, high-amplitude transient voltage spikes (such as lightning strikes or high-frequency inductive switching surges) lasting micro-seconds or nanoseconds. However, an SPD cannot handle sustained over-voltage (such as a 300V AC grid swell lasting several seconds or minutes)—sustained over-voltage will overheat and destroy an SPD's internal metal oxide varistors (MOVs). In contrast, an Under Over Voltage Protector constantly monitors True RMS line voltage and physically isolates the downstream load via solid-state or electromechanical relays during sustained over-voltage or under-voltage conditions, auto-resetting only when normal grid conditions return.
2. Why is voltage trip hysteresis delay essential in industrial environments?
When utility grid voltage hovers near a trip threshold (e.g., oscillating rapidly between 278V and 282V AC), an unprotected voltage relay without hysteresis would endlessly energize and de-energize ("chatter"). This rapid switching creates severe electrical arc damage to relay contacts and subjects downstream equipment to destructive power cycling. Micro Power Under Over Voltage Protectors feature programmable reset hysteresis windows (e.g., tripping at 280V AC but resetting only when voltage drops reliably back to 265V AC) alongside customizable time-delay timers (1s to 500s) to guarantee stable grid recovery before load re-connection.
3. Can Micro Power provide customized voltage set-points and OEM white-label manufacturing?
Yes. As an established manufacturer with complete in-house hardware engineering, magnetic design, and PCB assembly in Nagpur, Sanstar Microsystems offers full OEM and ODM customization. We can tailor trip thresholds, cut-off speeds, terminal configurations, enclosure dimensions, and branding to meet your exact market or panel requirement. 4. How does an Under Over Voltage Protector safeguard Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS)?
Switch Mode Power Supplies convert AC input voltage to stable DC output using high-frequency pulse-width modulation (PWM). However, when AC input voltage drops severely (Under Voltage brownout), an SMPS automatically draws increased AC current to maintain constant DC power output ($P = V \times I$). This sudden current surge causes extreme thermal stress on input bridge rectifiers, bulk capacitors, and switching MOSFETs, leading to catastrophic power supply failure. By installing a high-speed Under Over Voltage Protector upstream of the SMPS, the AC supply is safely isolated during brownout conditions before thermal breakdown occurs.
5. What international compliance documentation is supplied with B2B volume shipments?
Every commercial order dispatched from our facility includes full batch traceability reports, Certificates of Conformity (CoC), and detailed test sheets covering high-voltage isolation breakdown, thermal burn-in logs, and trip accuracy calibration. Official compliance certificates for BIS, CE, and UL standards are made available to your engineering quality control desk upon request.
